Employ a salesperson or improve your website? Oct 1st '09

As I was on the way to my usual 4Networking meeting in Bath it suddenly came to me that your website is the best salesperson you could ever have for your company.
- Your website doesn’t require any holiday entitlements
- It will never call in sick, never sleep and never stop selling
- It doesn’t demand a minimum wage
- The Working Time Directive doesn’t apply
- Unlike the Royal Mail your website will never go on strike over pay or pension.
The points above haven’t even mentioned any raw numbers or included the time and effort involved in hiring and managing another salesperson in your company. Lets run through a few example figures:
Pounds, shillings and pence
I have just found a job based in Wales at a well known furniture retailer for a Sales Person on Fish4 with a starting salary of £15,000 per annum. Let’s go with that…
As a company owner or manager you are looking at £15k per annum as a basic wage. The advert mentions bonuses and commission, so lets add on another £3k to cover that (could be more or could be less, don’t quote us on this, we experts in Web design not recruitment!). The new staff member is bound to require a certain amount of training which takes time and money. Let’s say £2k for that. Your running total is now up to £20k for the first year with very similar recurring costs year-on-year.
That’s a hefty amount of money for a company employing their first salesperson. Is there a better way to spend the money and yet get similar results? Quite possibly. Your website is a 24 hours, 7 days a week sales person. Constantly selling for your company and under your control. You tell your website what to say and how to say it. No questions, no problems.
If I told you you could get this perfect salesperson for a fraction of the cost would you say I was crazy? Come and speak to us ‘crazy’ folk at Centation and we’ll assist in any way we can.
