Obtaining more visitors on a shoestring budget Feb 18th '10

Everyone wants the Holy Grail of instantly being able to drive more people to their website. There are two ways to achieve this, either by investing time or money. Most companies during this economic downturn are on a tight budget when it comes to their website so we will focus on tips and tricks to harnessing visitors for free.

Article writing

The first port of call is article writing. They’re a brilliant way to increase the number of visits to your site and drastically increase exposure. These articles can be added to your blog, a dedicated article website or even someone else’s blog as a guest writer! The articles you write don’t have to be long, only a few hundred words, keep the user engaged without boring them—you’re not writing an essay! Controversial topics or introducing a potential new method will help stimulate debate which can only lead to more comments, more exposure and the audience viewing yourself as an expert in your chosen field.

Social media

Social media is a hot topic at the moment with the rise of Twitter and Facebook, two brilliant tools to tap into your potential customer base. Social media is not a fad, its a way of communicating to huge quantities of people at once. If you do any form of business networking, social media should be an easy concept. One of the most important rules not to forget with social media is be social! 80 percent social with 20 percent of business works for most people.

Video

Video is another medium which is proving popular due to the massive rise of YouTube and the widespread use of Broadband Internet. Online video done well can drive traffic to your website, viral videos have tens of millions of views on YouTube, all of which could be viewing your product or service. An excellent example is Google’s Parisian Love which attracted millions of views almost overnight. If you are keen to go down the video route we advise you to get in touch with an expert.

Search Engine Optimisation

SEO is a topic which is frequently brought up when talking about increasing traffic to a website. The SEO industry has been tarnished by shady companies who ring up out of the blue and guarantee that they can get you to the top of Google. This is rubbish! Before you think about doing any form of SEO have a look at our two part SEO tips series entitled 10 tips to improve your search engine ranking part 1 and part 2.

Above are just a few ideas to take away and muse over. If done right any of these methods can create an influx of traffic on a shoestring budget. If you wanted to discuss any of these options with us please feel free to get in contact and we’ll be pleased to help you.

What are your thoughts on automatic Social Media where a 3rd party service places your pre-prepared messages at various times in the day? Personally, I’ve stopped following people who do that as they’re annoying, especially with the same spelling mistake repeated over and over!

I think if done well it can be very effective. However as is the case in most things, there are people doing it badly. Personally I don’t queue up social media however I do queue up blog posts when needed.
